The listening River

Such a beautiful river
Blue and gray filled with memories
Memories of my childhood

Flowing from time immemorial

No one knows where you originate from
We couldn’t tell how many years you’ve lived
You would splash our legs while we sat at your bank telling stories
Stories so filled with great expectations

About growing up, making money,
Marriage and family
You became our silent friend
Listening and splashing your way down

Eagerly awaiting our next arrival
Though many years have passed
And many waters gone under thy bridge
Yet so indelible you remain in our hearts.
